• Planning

As much as the parent board would like to support every possible program, activity, or assembly under the sun, the reality is that we need to balance these against the core curriculum that our teachers must get through each year and how our school is ultimately assessed by the school district and state.  Understanding the costs--both in terms of dollars spent and hours required-- to sustain any activity is a critical factor in making decisions about where the board can best put its resources and efforts behind.  Alternatively, submitting hours helps the board identify areas where more effort is needed to recruit for volunteers or to surface volunteer opportunities if there are beloved programs that have declining support over time.

• Recognition

Cornerstone has a legacy of acknowledging and recognizing the efforts of specific individuals and families that go well above and beyond what is asked of them.  We want to continue this legacy and bring back some of our older recognition programs to thank the many individuals who exemplify the Cornerstone philosophy and to highlight the many ways that families can participate.

• Transparency

When families submit their volunteer hours, we create a clear record of the collective effort required to make our school thrive.  It captures what differentiates Cornerstone from any other elementary school in the district.  This transparency allows to demonstrate to our own community, district adminstrators, potential new and future families exactly how much time and energy our parents invest in forging Cornerstone to be an exceptional environment.  When applying for outside grants, it allows us to articulate in concrete terms how parent involvement is *the* differentiator between Cornerstone and our peers.
